Notice of Class "B" Highways

Town Highway Department Staff will be posting certain Town-maintained roads as Class "B" highways today as per the resolution below that was adopted by the Town Board.

TOWN OF COTTAGE GROVE RESOLUTION 2025-10-20
 A RESOLUTION CLASSIFYING CERTAIN TOWN-MAINTAINED HIGHWAYS AS CLASS “B” HIGHWAYS

            WHEREAS, Wis. Stat. §§ 349.15, 349.16 and Town Ordinances § 9.07(4) authorize the Town to adopt, by resolution, special weight limitations on any Town roads; and

            WHEREAS, the Town Highway Superintendent has recommended to the Town Board that the Town impose special weight limitations on the following Town-maintained Highways, based on the conditions of the roadbeds, which would likely be seriously damaged or destroyed in the absence of such special limitations:

                                    Femrite Drive;
                                    Gaston Road;
                                    Hope Road;
                                    Vilas Road;
                                    Vilas Hope Road; and

            WHEREAS, the Town Highway Superintendent has recommended the Town Board classify the above-named Town-maintained Highways as Class “B” Highways under Wis. Stat. § 348.16; and

            WHEREAS, the Town Board concurs with the recommendation of the Town Highways Superintendent and determines that it is necessary to impose Class “B” Highway weight limitations on the above-named Town-maintained Highways;

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Board of the Town of Cottage Grove as follows:

  1. Pursuant to Wis. Stat. §§ 349.15, 349.16 and Town Ordinances § 9.07(4), the Town Board designates the following Town-maintained Highways as Class “B” Highways:

Femrite Drive;
Gaston Road;
Hope Road;
Vilas Road;
Vilas Hope Road;

  1. The Town Highways Superintendent shall erect signs on or along the above-named Town-maintained Highways to give notice that a special weight limitation is in effect and the nature of that limitation.
  2. Pursuant to Town Ordinances § 9.07(2), Class “B” Highways weight limitations on the above-named Town-maintained Highways shall not be enforced against: Town vehicles engaged in official duties, including emergency vehicles; garbage and recycling trucks contracted by the Town; school buses; and milk, feed, and fuel trucks doing business on the posted highway.

This Resolution was duly adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Cottage Grove, Dane County, Wisconsin at a meeting on October 20, 2025 by a vote of 5 in favor, 0 opposed, and 0 not voting.
