Food Container Recycling Tips

Food container recycling can be confusing, so we wanted to share some tips for what can and cannot be recycled in your cart.

- Grease-free pizza boxes can be recycled as long as they do not include cheese, crusts or any food remnants. The box does need to be grease free, otherwise it is NOT recyclable.
- Milk jugs, coffee creamer cartons, and glass condiment jars are recyclable if they have been rinsed and dried.
- Foil pie & baking pans are recyclable as long as they have been thoroughly cleaned and dried.
- Soda and juice bottles and cans are recyclable if they have been rinsed and dried.
- Cereal boxes are recyclable but the inside bags are NOT recyclable.
- Plastic produce clamshells are recyclable if they have been rinsed and dried, and any absorbent pads have been removed. Produce bags, however, are NOT recyclable curbside – those need to be returned to retailers for recycling, along with any plastic shopping bags.
- While plastic water bottles are recyclable in carts, the outer case wrap is NOT recyclable curbside and needs to be returned to retailers for recycling.
- Chip bags are NOT recyclable due to the grease and food remnants left behind.
- Candy wrappers are NOT recyclable due to food remnants left behind.
- Baby food pouches and apple sauce pouches are NOT recyclable since they cannot be fully rinsed out. Plastic baby food containers are recyclable, however, as long as they have been thoroughly cleaned and dried.

All recyclable food containers should be placed loosely in your recycling cart and not bagged.
