Notice of Public Hearing on Comprehensive Plan Amendments

Notice is hereby given that the Town Board of the Town of Cottage Grove will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020.  The hearing will be held at the Town Hall, 4058 County Road N; Cottage Grove, WI.

The public hearing will be held to gather public input on proposed amendments to the Town of Cottage Grove Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan sets a vision and implementation program for the future growth, development, and preservation of the Town. The proposed amendments would alter Map 1: Jurisdictional Boundaries, Map 10: Future Land Use to adjust designations of certain parcels between the “Agricultural Preservation Area” and “Commercial Development Area”, and certain text and figures in the Vision and Directions volume related to the Town’s transfer of development rights program and other matters.  The proposed amendment and the Town’s full Comprehensive Plan are linked below.  Written comments should be submitted to the Town Clerk, who will forward them to the Board.

The Town of Cottage Grove Comprehensive Plan was adopted under Section 66.1001(4), Wisconsin Statutes, in two volumes, with one volume titled Conditions and Issues and the second volume titled Vision and Directions. The Town will regularly evaluate its progress towards achieving the recommendations of the Comprehensive Plan, and amend and update the Plan as appropriate. Amendments to this Comprehensive Plan may be appropriate in the years following initial Plan adoption and in instances where the Plan becomes irrelevant or contradictory to emerging policy or trends. “Amendments” are generally defined as minor changes to the Plan maps or text. The Plan will be specifically evaluated for potential amendments once every year, with the process starting in February.

Between February 15 and March 15 of each year, the Town will accept requests from property owners, potential developers, and other interested stakeholders for Plan amendments. Next, the Plan Commission will evaluate any amendment requests (including those generated by Commission or Board members), and recommend appropriate amendments to the Board. Specific procedures for adopting and updating the Comprehensive Plan can be found in Chapter 7 of the Visions and Directions Volume.
