Garbage & Recycling

Did you know that in addition to helping the environment, your recycling efforts offset your property taxes by providing revenue to the Town in the form of recycling grant funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources? Please follow the guidelines below to ensure that we continue to benefit from this program!

Advanced Disposal picks up trash and recyclables in the Town of Cottage Grove using an automated system and carts that they provide. We are serviced by their Waunakee location, which you can reach by calling 608-251-7878.

Trash pickup is on a weekly basis, spread over a two day period. Both sides of County Road N and all residences to the east are picked up on Wednesdays, residences west of County Road N are picked up on Thursdays.

Collection of recyclables is on an every other week schedule. See the calendar highlighting recycling weeks, and list of items that can be recycled and other important information. All recyclables must be placed in the recycling cart. The following items may also be put out along side the recycling cart on recycling weeks:

  • Up to 2 one-gallon containers of common engine oil on recycling weeks. It must be in leak-proof, non-breakable containers.
  • Lead acid vehicle batteries (car and truck batteries only) with unbroken casings.
  • Up to 2 off-the-rim car tires (maximum of 8 per year).

Please have your carts out by 6:00 A.M. on your collection day. Place one cart on each side of the driveway, or allow at least 3 feet clearance on either side of each cart, with wheels toward the house so the lid opens toward the truck.

Appliances and large items are picked up at no extra upon request. You must call Advanced Disposal at 608-251-7878 to make such a request. Eligible appliances include washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters.

Holiday Schedule

There will be NO pickup on the following days:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Collection will be one day later (working on Saturdays) when the holiday falls during the week.

Disposing of Computers, TVs and other electronics:

Once each year the Town has a curbside collection of electronic waste items, usually in May. Watch this web site and your Annual Report and Newsletter for the week of the next collection.

Wisconsin's electronics recycling law establishes the E-Cycle Wisconsin program to collect and recycle certain electronic devices. It is based on a product stewardship approach, which assigns primary responsibility for collection and recycling to the manufacturer. The law also bans certain electronics from Wisconsin landfills and incinerators. For more information, including a list of facilities that accept discarded electronics, go to http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Ecycle/.

Resource Solutions, 5943 Express Circle in Madison, accepts metal, wire and most electronics. Follow the link or call 608-244-5451 for more information

Goodwill Industries accepts computers and computer components at no charge. (They do not accept televisions or other electronics, only computer related materials.)
